Two rooms, one flooring order
Compare a combined purchase with separate room orders, including the spare material left by rounding.

Measure the two rooms
Suppose a bedroom is 4.2 × 3.6 m and a study is 3 × 2.4 m. Their measured areas are 15.12 m² and 7.20 m². Both use the same flooring product, sold in packs covering 2.2 m² at 35 USD each. We use a 10% cutting allowance for this example; it is an input choice, not an installation recommendation.
Follow the combined calculation
Measured area: 15.12 + 7.20 = 22.32 m². Target with allowance: 22.32 × 1.10 = 24.552 m². Divide by pack coverage: 24.552 ÷ 2.2 = 11.16 packs. Round upward to 12 packs, giving 26.40 m² of purchased coverage and a material cost of 420 USD.
The 4.08 m² shown as spare is 26.40 − 22.32. It includes 2.232 m² of planned allowance plus 1.848 m² caused by whole-pack rounding. It does not mean every spare piece will be reusable: cut lengths and installation direction still matter.
Does combining always save a pack?
Here, separate orders require 8 packs for the bedroom and 4 for the study: still 12. Combining does not guarantee savings. But two small areas, each 3 × 1 m, need 2 packs each at the same allowance and coverage: 4 packs separately. Combined, their 6.6 m² target fits exactly into 3 packs. Compare the actual boundaries rather than assuming a saving.
Keep product groups separate
Only combine rooms that can genuinely share the product and usable offcuts. Different colors, thicknesses, pack coverage or incompatible batches need separate estimates. Before ordering, confirm coverage, batch availability, return policy, and the installer’s allowance. Underlay, trim, delivery, tax and labor are outside the displayed material cost.
